The EU Sustainable Energy Week, EUSEW, takes place every year and is the reference event for addressing optimal use of energy in Europe. It forms part of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign which is an initiative of the European Commission launched in 2005. During the EU Sustainable Energy Week, events will take place in Brussels and all over Europe which highlight what it is various actors are doing to help meet the European Union's energy policy targets within the fields of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, clean transport and alternative fuels. EUSEW is organised by the Executive Agency for Competitiveness and Innovation (EACI) on behalf of the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy and Transport.

This year, A.I.S.E. has been chosen together with CECED, the European Committee of Domestic Equipment Manufacturers, to participate in the series of conferences taking place in Brussels. During this joint conference, A.I.S.E. and CECED want to share their experience and vision on sustainable lifestyle. We believe that smart cities should be inhabited by smart consumers who can rationally shape their everyday behaviour to take advantage of the opportunities offered by increased energy efficiency.

The first part of the event will focus on the smart policy that is already in place and how it can be implemented to get the desired results. In the second part we will focus on smart shopping and smart use of products. We will examine the role of voluntary initiatives in the detergents industry and the potential of smart technology developed by the household appliance industry. To conclude we will investigate how retailers promote sustainability and how consumers respond to it.
