Human & Environmental Risk Assessments

A.I.S.E. continues to rigorously support the objectives and implementation of European legislation aimed at harmonising and specifying standards to ensure the protection of consumers, customers, people at work and the environment. The industry has also developed and participated in several voluntary safety-related initiatives to ensure the safety of its products.

This joint platform of A.I.S.E and CESIO was created in 1991 as a response of the involved industries to the ongoing risk assessment activities in Europe. ERASM initiates and co-ordinates joint industry activities for improving and enlarging the knowledge basis for the risk assessments of detergent-based surfactants in the environment.

This voluntary industry initiative which carries out Human and Environmental Risk Assessments (HERA) on ingredients of household cleaning products was developed in 1999, jointly by A.I.S.E. and Cefic. To date, HERA has assessed over 90% of the total volume of raw materials used in household detergents and cleaners being used in EU 15 + 3 (Norway, Switzerland and Iceland).
