A.I.S.E. Laundry Sustainability Projects (LSPs)

Since its foundation in 1952, A.I.S.E. (the International Association for Soaps, Detergents and Maintenance Products) and its member companies have been committed to acting responsibly in order to benefit the end-user, and to maintain high standards of human and environmental safety. Several voluntary initiatives have been developed and implemented over the years, notably the A.I.S.E. Code of Good Environmental Practice (‘the Code’).

The Code was endorsed by the European Commission in Recommendation 98/480 EC. It was put into place in 1998, before the last EU enlargement, and was concluded successfully in 2002.

A.I.S.E. wants to build on that success and has launched, in conjunction with its National Association members, several important initiatives based on a key element of the Code - promoting a more sustainable level of consumption of detergents and energy during the washing machine laundry process. These initiatives are a key element of A.I.S.E.’s Sustainability strategy, and specifically aim to minimise the environmental impact of laundry detergent powders by promoting sustainable production and consumption of detergents via compaction and adequate consumer information.

These initiatives called “Laundry Sustainability projects”are listed below and details of their scope, implementation and consumer communication elements are attached.
