AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE IN ENSURING SAFETY OF END USERS OF DETERGENT PRODUCTS
The SUMI package (Safe Use of Mixtures Information) is a set of communication tools which offer companies supplying to the industrial and professional cleaning industry a standardised way to communicate Operational Conditions and Risk Management Measures (OC/RMM). These conditions refer to a typical use of the product and they depend on the application rather than on its chemical composition. The format and the language of the SUMIs are intentionally simple and clear since the target audience is people who use these products and may not have deep chemical knowledge, not be familiar with the REACH jargon used in Exposure Scenarios.
SUMIs permit users to fulfill the obligations set out by the OHS legislation and REACH while streamlining communication. They are the latest step in the work on Use Maps carried out by the European Network on Exposure Scenarios (ENES). Their aim is to increase safety, by giving the end user the key pieces of information that are necessary to ensure safe use of a mixture.
