Report on the Green Claims Directive adopted by ENVI & IMCO Committee (14 February 2024)

On 14 February 2024, the European Parliament Committee on the Environment, Public Health & Food Safety (ENVI) and Internal Market & Consumer Protection (IMCO) adopted its Report on the Green Claims Directive.

A.I.S.E. supports that greenclaims should be subject to substantiation, guaranteeing that green claims are robust and reliable. We appreciate the willingness of the policymakers to address the industry concerns in the committee report.

A.I.S.E. remains committed to a constructive dialogue on the next stages of the negotiations and we call for further improvements of the committee report:
  • Preventing environmental claims for products containing certain hazardous substances is counterproductive to many of the EU Green Deal objectives

  • Simplified, robust verification process & mutual recognition of certificates of conformity

  • Proportionate requirements for the substantiation of explicit environmental claims to the nature of the claim.
